The Temecula Preparatory School Board of Directors typically meet once a month.  All meetings are held at 35777 Abelia Street, Winchester CA 92596. Regular board meeting agendas must be posted 72-hours prior to the meeting date.  “Special” board meeting agendas must be posted 24-hours in advance.  The meeting time is always listed on the board agenda.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Board of Directors has legal and fiduciary responsibility for the charter school. Typically the Board is responsible for providing fiscal accountability by approving and monitoring the budget and overseeing governance.

Another Board function is to oversee their one employee, the Head of School. They are responsible for his annual evaluation, the hiring and firing of the Head of School.

The Board approves major educational and operational policies along with major contracts (leases, loans), the annual budget, and ensures long-term viability.

The Head of School is in charge of day-to-day operations and selection of all other staff and is accountable for implementing all board policies. The Head of School is in charge of the hiring, firing, and discipline of all staff.

The Board of Directors does not manage rank and file employees, interview employees, or field complaints, comments, etc. from employees or constituents. Board members re-direct individuals to address issues, concerns, ideas with the Head of School and/or his staff.

Board members do not get involved with day-to-day operations of the school.

Yes, all public educational institutions are required to follow the Brown Act.

The board meeting agenda must be posted in a public location 72 hours before the meeting. Special meetings require a 24 hour public notice.

“Any congregation of a majority of the members of a legislative body…to hear, discuss, or deliberate, or take action on any item.”

You may not, “outside a meeting…use a series of communications…directly or through intermediaries, to discuss, deliberate, or take action…” (Gov. Code Sec. 54952.2)

Considered a “serial meeting” and must be publicly posted and agenda posted.

If a quorum of Board Members is present in any one location (i.e. email, Facebook private group, meeting, event, etc.) then a public meeting is created whether intentional or unintentional and the meeting must be posted in a public location, along with agenda and all members of the public invited to attend.

The board welcomes communication from the parents and students and the quickest way to communicate with the board is through the established board e-mail addresses. There is also a regular monthly board meeting held at Temecula Preparatory School and the dates for these meetings are on the school calendar. During these meetings there is specific time set aside for any individual to address the board regarding any type of issue.

For staff members the board strongly encourages staff to communicate with their direct supervisors and to work within the established organizational chart as set forth by the Head of School. Staff members are also welcome to address the board during the regular monthly board meetings at the specific time set aside for any individual to address the board regarding any type of issue.
