How to Enroll

Consider our program, is it for you?

Our entire program is directed toward a commitment to individual growth and learning. It emphasizes discipline, ethical values, personal responsibility, and “respectfulness”. Homework is substantial without being overwhelming. Students are expected to rise to a high standard in academic performance and personal behavior.

Physical education and athletics are an important element of a well-rounded student. We are proud to be a member of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), with students competing at the high school level. Art, art appreciation, and music are an integral part of the classical curriculum. French is taught in grades K through 12. Latin has been integrated into the Language Arts curriculum.

Since we believe maturity and not intelligence is the measure of moving a child ahead, a student must be five years old by September 1st to enter our kindergarten, which is currently dismissed at 1:30 p.m. each day. Our school year is on a traditional calendar, running approximately 184 days.

Uniforms are required for the students at the parent’s expense. We believe the dress code for students and teachers promotes a sense of identity with the school, eliminates the competition fostered by fashion dictates, and also supports the school’s seriousness of purpose.

We strongly recommend that you review the online section entitled About TPS, and more specifically the portion entitled TPS Program. This will give you information you need to begin understanding what a “classical” education means for your child.

We also recommend that you review the online Student & Parent Handbook which can be found on-line under the enrollment section. This document contains much of the information you will need to make the final determination.

Finally, it is always a good idea to review the online Health and Immunization Requirements for school enrollment. There may be some requirements you will need to address before enrollment in the school and you may need time to get these issues addressed prior to enrollment.

Understand the Process

Filling out an application does not secure enrollment, it is only the first step in the enrollment process. It is important to understand, however, that filling out the application and getting into the school in a timely fashion does increase your child’s chances of being enrolled. For the 2008-2009 school year there were over 500 students on the waiting list, but it was from this list that the lottery for enrollment was pulled.

It is important to understand how enrollment space is offered to prospective students. Students currently enrolled in TPS will have first priority for the next year’s enrollment. Their siblings will have priority in accordance with an available space in their respective grades and the school district in which they reside. In-district siblings have first priority. Out of district siblings are placed with in-district non-siblings. All students, including in-district siblings, are pulled randomly in separate categories. According to state charter law, any remaining spaces will be filled by a random lottery drawing during the month of April. If your student is not enrolled for the current school year, please be advised that a fresh application is required each year until placement may occur.

Applying for Enrollment

The completed application for enrollment must be filled out and on file no later than March 30th for the following school year. For students in grades 9-12, applications will be accepted for the upcoming school year as space allows. To aid you in obtaining our application, we have made it available online. You may click here to complete the application on-line, or you may download a printable version of the application.

NOTE: The Application must be submitted electronically. Not only does this help us with the tremendous paperwork load here in the office, it also allows you to save costs and time in submitting by mail or in person.

Once your application has been submitted and received it will be officially “on file” for the lottery. You may wish to call to ensure your application has been received and is on file for the lottery. In April the lottery for the next school year will be drawn. While your child may not make it into a class initially, his/her name will be placed on a waiting list based upon the chronological drawing of names. There is a chance that with the attrition that occurs over the summer due to people moving or re-evaluating their circumstances, your child may still be enrolled in a class. If a spot opens up in a class and your child is the next student on the waiting list, you will be called and offered the spot. If you choose to take the spot, the enrollment process will begin.

Enrolling Your New Student

Once you have been contacted and informed that your child was selected in the lottery, your child’s space in the class will be reserved. However, your child’s enrollment is not yet secure. There are two steps that must be taken in order to secure enrollment for the following year.

Step One: Family Interview When you are contacted to inform you that your child is selected in the lottery you will be asked to establish a date for your family interview with TPS administration. This interview is necessary for the enrollment process. During the family interview parents and students are given the opportunity to better evaluate TPS and make a final determination as to whether or not TPS is the right school for them. Once the interview is completed and you are comfortable with TPS you will be a given a registration package.

Step Two: Registration Package In order to enroll a new student you must go through the initial enrollment process by filling out all necessary registration forms. Please make sure the following forms are filled out to ensure you have a complete registration package:

  • Compact - 1 per student
  • Disaster Preparedness - 1 per student
  • Free and Reduced Meal - 1 form per FAMILY
  • Home Language Survey - 1 per student
  • Info. Sheet - New TPS Students Only
  • Kindergarten Physical Form
  • Medication Authorization Form - Only if Meds needed @ school
  • Oral Health Assessment Form - Kinder. Only
  • Oral Health Assessment Letter - Kindergarten Only
  • Oral Health Waiver - Kinder. Only
  • Parent/Student Handbook Signature Page - 1 per student
  • Publication Release - 1 per student
  • Records Release - New TPS Students Only
  • Registration Check List - READ ONLY FORM
  • Student Data Sheet - 1 per student
  • Student Health History - 1 per student

The registration package must be completed and delivered to TPS by May 1st to ensure that your child’s reservation is kept and their enrollment becomes official. If you do not register him/her by May 1st their space is no longer reserved and may be filled by the next student on the waiting list. All registration forms can be found by visiting our online Enrollment Forms.

Currently Enrolled Students

If you have a child currently enrolled and attending Temecula Preparatory School, your child’s place is given first priority and will be secured. However, this does NOT happen automatically. There are two steps that must be taken in order to secure enrollment for the following year.

Step One: Letter of Intent On March 1st you will be sent a “Letter of Intent” asking if you do indeed intend on re-enrolling your child. This letter must be returned to TPS by March 30th in order to secure your child’s place. If the “Letter of Intent” is not received by March 30th TPS will presume that you are not re-enrolling your child.

Step Two: Re-enrollment Package Once your “Letter of Intent” has been sent you may wish to call to ensure your letter has been received. You will need to complete the re-enrollment package and deliver it to TPS by May 1st to ensure that your child is re-enrolled. If you do not re-enroll him/her by May 1st their space is no longer reserved and may be filled by the next student on the waiting list. The “Re-enrollment Package” must be completed in full to hold his/her spot. The forms can be found by visiting our online Enrollment Forms.

School Supplies

If your child is enrolled in our Lower School (K-8) make sure to review the online classroom supply lists in the Enrollment section. Based upon the unique activities and instruction that goes on in each of the classrooms the lists may be different from one another. This will help your child be prepared for the the first day of school.

Welcome to TPS!
