Theatre Director | Mr. Joseph Arreola
Mr. Joseph Arreola was born and raised in California and grew up in Lake Elsinore. He graduated high school from Temescal Canyon High School and matriculated to the University of California, San Diego. He graduated Cum Laude from UCSD with a Bachelors degree in Theater and a minor in History. Mr. Arreola directed productions at the Old Town Temecula Theatre and coached soccer thereby discovering his desire to impact students’ lives. He decided to continue his education and obtain a multiple subject teaching credential from Azusa Pacific University. In 2009, TPS hired Mr. Arreola to its High School Faculty team. Mr. Arreola then re-enrolled at Azusa Pacific to earn a Master’s degree in Education and Master’s degree in Educational Administration. He then enrolled at Concordia University where he obtained his Administrative Credential. He is currently pursuing his Educational Doctorate at Azusa Pacific University. The Theatre Arts Department was formed 5 years ago with 20 students participating in the acting and production aspects of the performances. Under the direction of Mr. Arreola, the theatre department showcased 5 theatrical productions (3 plays, 2 musicals) during the 2013-14 school year and has experienced an increase in performance participation from students by 80% along with an increasing complexity in performance. Depending on the needs of the play, students in grades 3 to 12 are invited to tryout for parts. Students in grades 7-12 must maintain a GPA of 3.0 to attend rehearsals and performances. A “Black Box” theatre was built for the department so that they could hold performances in it to reduce overhead costs for the program yet still provide quality performances to the TPS community. Preserving the Performing Arts Program at TPS is of utmost importance as many schools continue to reduce the emphasis on and funding for arts education. TPS focuses on the humanities, so it holds the performing arts in high esteem.
